Augmented History

Augmented History is an AR application developed using Niantic's Lightship ARDK. This experience was created for the October MiniJam, with a theme of immersive education. This demo uses existing templates to transport the user back in time to experience what their city would be like during historical time periods. 

To play this demo, the user must localize at any VPS-enabled Wayspot. Currently there is no limit to location, but in the future this particular experience will only be visible in San Francisco.

Mission

• Educate user on history of their area using animations, interactions, and scripted events. 
• Use Niantic’s Lightship to create awe-inspiring experiences across the world, connecting historical events to their modern-day locations. 
• Design overarching system that encourages users to go out and explore more locations around their hometown. 

Future Goals

• Integrate real-time 3d map data to have accurate effects, reinactments, and other grand experiences based on building, street, and height information.
• Develop overarching system to encourage exploration.
